The teachers and other staff employed in various schools under the National Child Labour Project have been going without salaries for a year, thanks to non-release of grant by the Centre for the project. The fund crunch has also deprived the children studying in these schools from their monthly stipends and refreshments. The project covers three districts Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar and there are 40 schools in each of these districts aimed to provide education to poor children, especially those who fend for themselves.
