Every year thousands of tender hands work to promote pollination of cotton flowers as part of an exercise to manufacture hybrid seeds in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. At least a thousand children from various villages of Cuddapah district go to work in cotton seed farms where they toil day and night for three months facilitating pollination of flowers of hybrid varieties. Seed farming units in the district mobilise impoverished children from Prodduttur, Rajupalem, Jammalamadugu, Peddamudiam, Mylavaram and Brahamamgarimatham villages. In a survey conducted by an NGO, it was revealed that the children are paid between Rs 900-1000 a month.
