The Chilika Development Authority (CDA) in Orissa has become the first organization in the Asian subcontinent to receive the Ramsar Wetland Conservation Award for 2002. The international award, instituted by the Ramsar Convention on Wetland, is presented once in three years for outstanding achievement in wetland restoration.
