Life in the district has been paralyzed on Tuesday as temperature touches 2 degrees Celsius. People preferred to remain indoors because of dense fog and strong wind.
Prevailing cold wave even affected Christmas celebrations and market activities. Most people avoided venturing out after sunset. "Customers preferred to finish their last minute shopping by 4pm because of cold," a bakery owner said. He said the business was brisk between 12 noon to 3pm because of severe cold wave.
There was huge rush at shops selling woolens and blankets because of sudden fall in temperature and strong wind. The Tibetan refugees who visit this town every year to sell their products admitted that they were doing good business. "Most of my stock is over. Keeping in mind the condition I have sent an SOS to the suppliers to supply more woolen garments to meet the heavy demand," said a Tibetan refugee who has put up a stall here. The demand for purchase of room heaters has also increased.
Martin Shaw, the superintendent of Koderma jail and a resident of Hazaribag, said many people did not attend the Christmas prayers because of severe cold.
