China should plant more trees and make full use of its forest resources to meet the increasing demand for timber in the future, a forestry expert said. The serious flooding on the Yangtze River the past summer increased Chinese awareness of environmental protection, and logging in most forests in many provinces has been banned. Newly planted forest areas will have to take the place of natural forests and become China's main source of timber, said Zhang Jiurong, vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Forestry.
