The next days will see eco-warriors in the country coming out strongly against India's commercial adoption of Bt cotton. Their weapon will be the results of a report released by the China-based Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences which concludes that the bollworm pest (the main target of Bt cotton) would probably lose it resistance to Bt toxin within 8-10 years; that Bt cotton encourages the spread of other pests and adversely affects other natural enemies of the bollworm.
