Chinese firm offers to install less energy consuming lights in Karachi

The Chinese centre One Telecom International Holding Limited has offered to install very low consuming and zero power search LED solar lights at different places in Karachi, especially parks under Pak-China joint venture. A delegation of the company, led by its Deputy General Manager Yu Ping, called on acting City Nazim Nasrin Jalil at her office here on Saturday. The delegation informed acting City Nazim: "The LED solar lights not only consumes very low energy, but also flashes provide sharp lighting and has a life span of 20 years." The acting Nazim appreciated the offer, and said that in view of energy shortage in Karachi, it had become imperative that people should consume minimum electricity and keep unnecessary lights shut to conserve electricity. She stressed the need for using alternate sources and methods of energy as well, and said that people would have to use such electric appliances, which might consume minimum possible electricity. In Karachi, she said, there were 3,050 electric poles and score of small and major parks. Nasrin Jalil said that initially the LED solar lights would be used in a park of Gulshan-e-Iqbal on experimental basis as pilot project. She said this pilot project would got be sponsored so that town or City Government did not get over-burdened. Later, she said, the City Government would have these lights used as streetlights and in important parks throughout the city under formal terms and conditions. On the occasion, the acting Nazim got the meetings of the delegation fixed with Minister for Environment and Nazim, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town. Copyright Associated Press of Pakistan, 2008
