Rayagada: Health minister Prasanna Acharya on Tuesday visited the cholera-affected pockets in Rayagada district even as two more deaths were reported from Kalyansinghpur village under Kashipur block taking the toll at 68. The minister, accompanied by health secretary Anu Garg, visited a few cholera-hit villages and supervised the emergency relief operations there. Later, he reviewed the healthcare activities at the district headquarters. Reports from Rayagada said that despite deployment of two additional teams of doctors and paramedic personnel, the situation in the district was worsening as cholera had spread to a few more villages, taking the total number of affected villages to 156. Inaccessible roads and intermittent rains have been the biggest hurdle in the way of early mobilization to the interior areas. The ODRAF team that reached the Maoist-affected Gudari, has been forced to operate in the most-affected Khariguda GP which is now cut off after floods in the Bansadhara river. Due to absence of minimum facilities like places to stay, electricity, safe drinking water, etc. the health teams including doctors, pharmacists and paramedics have established temporary health camps near road sides.
