Chromium in Ghaziabad tube well

The Municipal Corporation of Ghaziabad has shutdown one of its tube wells after a hazardous chemical- Chromium- was found in the drinking water being supplied of it . The authorities remained indifferent till the local MLA came with a sample of the water which was tested positive of chromium, which is claimed to be cause of cancer. The situation is alarming; as hazardous affluent being discharged by some industrial and commercial units. Though the district administration and the Nagar Nigam are conducting surveys, rules are being flouted under their nose. Municipal Commissioner Rambodh Morya said, alternate temporary arrangement has been made to maintain proper water supply in the affected residential areas. A special team has been constituted to trace the polluting industrial units generating chromium.And a complaint regarding this has been sent to the Central Ground Water Research Board at Bareilly.
