CID (forest cell) to investigate cases independently

The CID (Forest Cell) has now got powers to investigate the cases, pertaining to violation of provisions of the Wild Life Protection Act and the Karnataka Forests Act detected by it. With this power, the sleuths of the Cell now have been able to investigate the cases detected by them and they themselves could file chargesheet against the offenders before the jurisdictional courts across the State, said Inspector General of Police (Forest Cell) S Mahapatra. Mr Mahapatra said the CID (Forest Cell) had obtained legal clearance from the Director of Prosecution last month to investigate the cases of smuggling of sandalwood, ivory, animal skins, etc detected by it.
