Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao today said that the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) is currently facing crisis in collecting and disposing municipal solid waste due to non-availability of a dumping site. Replying to fears raised by the Panjim MLA Manohar Parrikar and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo, Alemao stated that due to non-availability of a permanent site, the Corporation is presently facing a crisis in collecting and disposing solid waste in compliance with the municipal solid waste rules. "The Corporation is now collecting the waste in its jurisdiction for processing at the Patto plant while the waste from the households, hotels and establishments is collected regularly and taken for removing the recyclable fraction from the waste,' he said. However, he said, in absence of waste disposal site, the Corporation has been constrained to stop collection of dry waste. He said that the committee appointed by the House will further look into the issue. Dissatisfied by Alemao's reply, Parrikar urged the minister to at least find a temporary solution to the Panjim garbage issue until a new site is identified.
