The Melbourne City Council (Australia) is expected to tonight adopt its controversial 50-year plan to battle global warming and drought by widening the use of native trees and slashing the amount of water used in its parks. But the council will try to hose down the controversy surrounding the Growing Green strategy with a proposal to stop property owners removing important trees without a permit.
