City records highest rains in September

Bringing down the temperature, heavy rains lashed the city for the second day on Thursday, affecting vehicular movement and inundating several low-lying areas. The city recorded the highest rainfall for a day in September in the last 24 hours, the Met department said. The city received 61.8 mm of rainfall till 5.30 pm on Thursday evening, taking the total rainfall experienced since the beginning of the monsoon to 677.8 mm. The rains also eased the power situation across the city as the demand came down to 3,200 MW as against the usual requirement of around 3500 MW. A senior official at the power department said there were no power shortage as a whole in the city and that the requirement has come down.
