Bangalore, DHNS:
The tremor on Friday morning in Bangalore has no connection with the earthquakes that hit many parts of the world and geologists believe that it was only a local phenomenon.
The last one week saw a series of earthquakes in various parts of the world starting from the Middle East, to Pakistan, China, Hindukush Range, Taiwan, Japan and Indonesia. According to geologists, the southern tectonic plates are colliding with the northern plates and are adjusting their position. The collision of the plates is also helping the great Himalayan range to expand further.
However, the tremor in Bangalore was an entirely local phenomenon. A prominent geologist of the city asserted that the tremor could be due to some adjustment in the nearby seismic fault lines. According to him, the nearby major seismic fault lines are Muthyalamudu and Shivanasamudra. He also cited that Jog falls is one of the seismic fault lines. He was, however, firm that Bangalore is based on a firm tectonic plate, though here too seismic activities had taken place in the past.
The Met department denied any earthquake. It attributed the roaring sound people had heard to some mining activities in Ramanagaram district.
