Just last week, around 2,000 trees were lost in the heavy rains and storm that lashed the Capital. the loss of green cover was deeply mourned by environmentalists, the Delhi Government and even the two civic bodies the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the New Delhi Municipal Council. Ironically, the same Government has now turned a blind eye to blatant violations of norms during digging on roadsides resulting in massive damage to trees and its roots.
