The civic standing committee on Tuesday gave its nod to appoint the Science and Technology Park (STP), Pune as the nodal agency for the execution of eco-housing programme and also to allocate Rs 21.10 lakh for STP, as expenses of conducting workshops and publishing information brochures, among other things. Even though the Science and Technology Park had shown interest in being appointed as the consulting agency and had filed a proposal to this effect moths back, there was some apparent disagreement over fees to be paid to the nodal agency. The Science and Technology Park has proposed Rs 2 per sq feet as charges for implementation of the eco-housing program of the Pune Municipal Corporation, but the civic officers had been demanding reduction in the proposed fees. The implementation of program includes monitoring and assessment of all eco-housing projects- from passing the building plan to its completion. The STP is setting up a sustainability institute at Kasarwadi with fully equipped facility for implementation of eco-housing program for PMC and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The Science and Technology Park will provide its expertise for implementation of the program and will help ease the PMC workload by handling the project. The Science and Technology Park will provide training to the staff of developers executing eco-housing projects along with promoting such projects. The proposal stated that, "For the effective implementation of the eco-housing policy, the nodal agency would scrutinize the proposals tendered by the developers and builders. The concerned developer would pay Rs 2 per sq ft as inspection fees. The nodal agency would also oversee if the developers were really undertaking the eco-housing initiatives by paying visits to the sites."
