Pune, September 21 Ganesh immersion is over, it is time now to clean the rivers. And taking initiative on this front is not the politicians, but corporates who have already embarked on the "Clean river" campaign from September 17. CII, Cummins India Ltd (CIL) and Subros Auto have launched the campaign during which volunteers will clean the river with the help of fishermen and other professionals, for a period of 10 days, till September 26.
The tentative areas shortlisted are Bundgarden, RTO Bridge, Z Bridge (Tilak Road), Kalyani Nagar, Harris bridge, Holkar bridge, Aundh bridge. A survey will be conducted and after consulting the PMC, the river cleaning process will begin in the area that requires most cleaning. The cleaning process would be carried out by hiring local fishermen and other professionals who have carried out such activities before. The waste material collected from the rivers will be disposed of, after consulting the Pune Municipal Corporation, stated a press release.
A campaign was flagged off by Suresh Jagtap, deputy commissioner, PMC and Dr Sanjeev Wavare, ward medical officer, PMC in the presence of PMC officials at the Z bridge on J M Road, which leads to Laxmi Road. The campaign has been launched in association with the Pune Municipal Corporation and other organisations.
