Guntur, July 14: The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) will conduct a speical drive from July 15 to 31 to keep the city clean and also to educate people on the importance of eradication of mosquito menace. The GMC will get drains, vacant land, culverts and pipeline screenings cleaned. The district collector, Mr M.B. Venaktesam, on Monday released posters on the eradication of mosquito menace at a programme organised at Gymkhana auditorium. The GMC has printed a large number posters to educate people on the importance of eradication of mosquito problem in the city. As part of the special drive, a 5-km walk will be organised on Tuesday. The walk will be flagged off at 9 am at Gandhi park in which thousands of people would participate. Municipal corporators, civic staff, NGOs, students and a large number of people will jon the walk which will pass through Naaz centre, Bus-stand, market centre and finally reach the municipal office. The GMC staff will take up spraying, fogging, remove building material and propaganda activities during the special drive. After the inauguration of the posters, Mr Venkatesam said that he will conduct similar programmes in other towns of the district if the GMC drive is successful. He assured that the district administration will extend support to the GMC for the succesful conduct of the special mosquito drive. The mayor, Mr Rayapati Mohana Sai Krishna and the municipal commissioner, Mr Siddhardh Jain, appe-aled to the people to extend their cooperation to the GMC for the succesful imp-lementation of the special drive.
