Clearance for 3 projects deferred

The single window clearance authority (SWCA) Thursday deferred giving clearance to two thermal power projects and a special economic zone (SEZ) proposal of Hindalco Industries Limited (HIL) and asked the companies to re-apply with complete details on the projects. The two thermal power projects proposed to be set up by Adhunik Power and Natural Resources Limited and Surjya Chakra Power Corporation required water from the Bramhani river. The SWCA informed the two companies that water from the Bramhani cannot be spared for the two projects and advised them to relocate the projects. Besides, the HIL was asked to make a detailed representation about the SEZ proposal and clearly specify what benefits Orissa will derive from the project. The SWCA chaired by Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy cleared 13 projects worth Rs 39,635.02 crore of which seven projects will go to the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) for final clearance. The projects cleared include 1,100-MW power plant by Visakha Thermal Private Limited at Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak district at an estimated cost of Rs 4,810 crore. The Ind Bharat Energy Limited will set up a 700 MW thermal power project at Sahajbali near Banharpali in Jharsuguda with an investment of Rs 3,150 crore. LANCO Solar Private Limited, a Hyderabad-based company, will set up a fully integrated plant for manufacture of crystalline silicon solar cells and modules in Dhenkanal district with an investment of Rs 2,800 crore. The Shiva Cement Limited will expand its existing plant at Kutra in Sundargarh district with an investment of Rs 800 crore. Besides, Eco Cement Limited will set up a million tonne capacity per annum super sulphate cement unit at Barada in Jajpur district. The investment will be Rs 99.02 crore. The Skol Breweries Limited will invest Rs 193 crore to set up plant in Choudwar Industrial Estate for manufacturing 6.5 lakh hecto litre beer. Bhusan Steels Limited will invest Rs 851 crore for a 4 million tonne per annum iron ore beneficiation plant and pelletisation plant of equal capacity at Maktapur in Keonjhar district. JSW Steels Limited will set up a 7 million tonne iron ore beneficiation plant and 5 million tonne pelletisation plant with an investment of Rs 1,450 crore. Bhusan Power and Steels Limited will establish a downstream and ancillarisation complex at Sambalpur with an investment of Rs 1,854 crore. Besides, the projects of Armstrong Pellets Private Limited, Astarang Power Company Limited, Welspun Orissa Steel Private Limited and Sri Metaliks were also cleared.
