Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) chairman, Mr Rajendra K Pachauri, will be visiting the city in the first week of August this year to discuss issues relating to global climate change, chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said today. Speaking at a function organised by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board, he said: "The topic (of climate change) is no more an issue for discussion by scientists only. Politicians like me must understand the same so that we can avail the benefits of sustainable development.' He pointed out that for the state controlling pollution from industrial and power units, automobile factories, medical wastes and real estate were a major concern. He also stressed on the need to have alternate bio fuels to save petrol and diesel. n SNS
