Clinton enrages Republicans by protecting 59 million acres of forest

In the last few weeks of his presidency, Bill Clinton has enraged Republican politicians by acting to protect 59 million acres of pristine forests from commercial activities.The new protection for 'roadless' areas of forest in 39 states, including the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, America's largest temperate rainforest, was declared by Bill Clinton on 5 January at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC.
