The Clinton administration has raised objections to a crucial provision - "unilateral sanctions" - a proposed child labour elimination Bill which targets countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh where the problem is prevalent. The objections were revealed in a letter the US State Department has sent to Rep Christopher Smith, chairman of the House Sub-committee on International Operations and Human Rights, expressing its views on the legislation.Smith has sponsored the International Child Labour Elimination Act of 1997 along with eight other Congressmen.
