NAMAKKAL: The Namakkal district administration would initiate stern action, if the dyeing units that were closed for violation of rules, were found being operated once again. The administration had found 138 dyeing units functioning without proper approval from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and polluting the Cauvery River in Pallipalayam and Komarapalayam blocks in Tiruchengode taluk. All these units were closed in July this year. But it was brought to the notice of the administration that owners of a few units, which were closed by the officials for violation of rules, broke open the seal and started operations. The administration would conduct frequent inspections in the taluk. If the closed units were found operational, stern action would be initiated against the owners, Collector U. Sagayam said in a press release. The Collector said that the government had already banned the establishment of new dyeing units within a distance of five km from Cauvery River. The entrepreneurs should strictly follow the order. The shifting of existing dyeing units to a place close to the river was also banned.
