Burhanpur: Rs 4500 crore Tapti river mega recharge project will be launched in Burhanpur district with the cooperation of Maharashtra government. Three-day Tapti Mahotsava will be held every year with a view to bringing Burhanpur on the world tourism map. These announcements were made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while addressing Gharib Sammelan at Burhanpur today. Chouhan said that looking after interests of the poor and the downtrodden is the first priority of the state government.
Chief Minister Chouhan also inspected various development works, performed Bhumi Poojans and made inaugurations in Burhanpur today including the inspection of historic Kundi Bhandare and Tapti ghats.
Addressing the Gharib Sammelan at Stadium Ground, Chouhan said that Burhanpur is the city of Suryaputri Tapti. The justice the city deserves has not been given to it during the last 50-60 years but now no stone will be left unturned in the city's development. Describing Burhanpur as a historic city, the Chief Minister said that a plan would be chalked out through Tourism Department for bringing Burhanpur on the world tourism map. Every year, a three-day Tapti Mahotsava will be organised here where national level artistes will perform.
The Chief Minister said that several schemes are under implementation for the welfare of the poor. It is endeavour of the government to bring smiles on the faces of the poor people. He announced to provide all possible conservation of crops of banana, cotton etc in Burhanpur. He announced to give Rs 2 crore for establishing a cold storage. He also announced Rs 21 lakh for Dugdh Ganga Yojana of Burhanpur and inter-shifting of the premises of proposed jail and hospital on the demand of public representatives.
The Chief Minister said that when he was coming to Burhanpur this morning some people advised him not to do so saying that the chief minister who visits Burhanpur loses his post. But I was so enthusiastic to meet people of Burhanpur that I ignored their advice and came here. He said that development of every area of Burhanpur would be ensured.
Chouhan presented cheques to the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. He presented cheques to Payal, Raveena and 10 girl children under Ladli Laxmi Yojana, gave pension documents to Ms Jameela Bi and handcarts to Mohammad Yaqub and Naseem Ahmad.
School Education Minister Ms Archana Chitnis, in charge minister of the district Ms Ranjana Baghel and former MP Nandkumar Singh Chouhan were also present on the occasion.
