CM for fullest utilization of Narmada Water by 2020

The Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given instructions for utilization of Narmada water by 2020 allocated to the state. Addressing 38th meeting of Narmada Control Board at Mantralaya here today he asked the concerning officers to chalk out a strategy to fully utilize the allocated Narmada water by 2020 ahead of the deadline of 2024 fixed by the Narmada Water dispute Tribunal. Referring to the key role of Narmada valley development projects in development of the state, Chouhan said that efforts should be intensified to maximise irrigation by timely completing the projects. The meeting approved the revised administrative sanction of Rs. 683.93 crore for Upper Narmada in Mandla and Dindori districts and Rs. 414.21 crore for Halon irrigation projects. Revised administration sanction of Rs. 3151.19 crore for the second phase of Indira Sagar Project in Khandwa was also accorded. It may be mentioned here that construction of Indira Sagar Porject dam is over and construction of canal structures is in different phases. The Chief Minister asked the officers to ensure that the canal construction works are completed by 2012 instead of decided deadline of 2014. The meeting also approved revised administrative sanction of Rs. 5127.22 crore for Bargi diversion project and Rs. 2921.54 crore for Omkareshwar project. Minister of State for General Administration and Chairman of the Narmada Valley Development Authority K. L. Agrawal threw light on the progress of ongoing projects. Vice Chairman O.P. Rawat informed that so far 72 thousand hectare area has been brought under irrigation against the target of 88 thousand hectare. Those present included Finance Minister Raghavji, Forest Minister Sartaj Singh, Agriculture Minister Dr. Ramkrishna Kusmaria, Minister for Public Works Nagendra Singh, Chief Secretary Avani Vaish, vice chairman of NVDA O. P. Rawat, principal secretary finance G. P. Sinhal, principal secretary water resources Radheshyam Julania, principal secretary public works K. K. Singh, Energy secretary Mohammad Suleman, secretary to C.M. Anurag Jain and senior officers.
