Cm for mandatory sewerage connections

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today emphasized the need to make sewerage connections compulsory for residents in areas having sewerage projects. Stating that sewerage scheme was initiated five years ago, he said it would be better to connect private toilets to sewer lines and pursuing the matter, the government can even think of refusing water connection if sewerage connection is not taken by the consumer. If required, the government can come out with a scheme for the poor, he added. He was replying to a resolution tabled by Fatorda MLA Damu Naik who urged the Government to subsidize the charges required to be paid for connecting toilets to the sewerage lines in Margao and Fatorda constituencies. PWD Minister Churchill Alemao assured the member that he would hold a meeting in Margao for which both the local MLAs of the two constituencies would be invited to discuss the issue. Based on the assurance given by the chief minister and PWD minister, the resolution was withdrawn. MORMUGAO: Replying to a resolution moved by Mormugao MLA Milind Naik, the Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane said the Government would go by the new norms of the National Rural Health Mission on setting up primary health centres, rural sub-centres, etc. To the demand for a primary health centre at Sada, he said once the criteria are announced by NRHM, the State Government would decide on the matter appropriately. If required, the Cottage Hospital would be upgraded, he said. SANGUEM: Chief Minister Digambar Kamat told Vasudev Gaonkar that if land is identified, the Government would consider constructing Ravindra Bhavan in Sanguem. BRIDGE: On the assurance of the Finance Minister Dayanand Narvekar and chief minister, the Shiroda MLA Mahadev Naik withdrew his resolution for construction of Raia-Rachol bridges across Zuari River for shortening the distance from Shiroda, Panchwadi, Sanvordem, Nirankal, etc to Margao and vice-versa. He was informed that GSIDC has initiated the process for the bridge in October last year and that consultancy is being appointed for the purpose.
