CM launches slew of projects in Dibrugarh

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's two-day visit to Dibrugarh district was filled with series of development projects. The 'improvement and strengthening' of Moran-Naharkatia PWD road, to cost Rs 56 crore, and the construction of Saraighat Bridge over river Burhidehing under Lahoal development block at a cost of Rs 21 crore were the two most ambitious projects among others that were initiated by the Chief Minister during his visit. Gogoi laid the foundation stone for the improvement and strengthening of the Moran-Naharkatia PWD road during a foundation stone laying ceremony organised at the Bamunbari High School playground in Tingkhong LAC today. The slender PWD road extending from Moran town to Naharkatia town within the district measures to 56.665 kilometre. The road via Rajgarh is a key route between Tingkhong and Naharkatia LAC where all modes of vehicles of Oil India Limited (OIL) and of the green tea leaf traders ply for commercial activities, other than public vehicles. An amount of Rs 54 crore has been sanctioned to upgrade the much deplorable road stretch. The road, which will be widened to further seven metres, will have extra widening in towns and busy market areas, according to the PWD sources. It is likely to be completed within eighteen months. Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the Saraighat Bridge at Kalyani High School near Jokai during a function yesterday evening. Gogoi addressed a big gathering before laying the foundation stone of the Bridge. The construction of the bridge with an estimated cost of Rs 21.16 crore, drawn from Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) is expected to be completed within a period of three years. The total length of the bridge will be 327 metre, the width of which will be stretched to 7.5 metre and will be designed in a two-way traffic mode, as learnt from the PWD officials. Gogoi, during his visit also inaugurated a newly-constructed market complex near the office of the Deputy Commissioner for the Self Help Groups (SHG). He further distributed three-wheel-and four-wheel carriers, power tillers and weaving sets to select SHGs from various development blocks of the district. The Chief Minister also unveiled a new tennis court at Chowkidinghee ground. The Chief Minister in his two-day visit was flanked by former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and former Union Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar, Assembly Deputy Speaker Pranati Phukan, Planning and Development Minister Prithbi Majhi, parliamentary secretary Jibontara Ghatowar, MLA Sarat Saikia, MLA Raju Sahu and PWD officials. Tarun Gogoi also addressed APCC organised Kisan Mela at Chowkidinghee yesterday, where party president Bhubaneshwar Kalita also spoke. The meeting was Chaired by Paban Singh Ghatowar.
