Delhi chief min ister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday said that the city requires more water due to the large number of influx of migrants from different states. She said that it is the right of the city to get its due share of water as decided by the Central government from the neighbouring states. The chief minister was replying to the allegation of the Union water resources minister Saifuddin Soz that the city has been wasting water during a function to launch the estamping for the registration of properties. "The city government is working to minimise the leakage of water through the water pipeline networks in the city. But every year, four to five lakh people come to the city from other states, which naturally pushes the requirement for the water. Delhi must get its share of water from the neighbouring states, in the light of the population load that it carries," said the chief minister. The city government heaved a sigh of relief with the Haryana government finally releasing the water for the city. The water level in the western Yamuna canal and the Wazirabad pond is expected to become normal in the coming few days, which will solve the crisis of the portable water in the city for few more days. The Outer Delhi areas, which have the maximum population load in the city, has been facing acute water crisis due to the Delhi Jal Board not being able to provide these areas with enough water. When contacted, the DJB spokesperson, however, said that the plants are running in full capacity and there is no deficiency of water as such. However, she did admit that in south Delhi owing to some repair work, the supply will be affected on Thursday.
