CM orders digging of borewells to provide water for wildlife

In an attempt to provide required water for wildlife and to reduce man-animal conflict, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday announced digging of borewells and construction of overhead water tanks in forest areas at a total cost of Rs. 2.81 crore. The Chief Minister in an announcement said that the borewells would be dug up in a 400 metre-depth, using a solar-powered motor. The the water would be pumped and stored in overhead tanks. The forest officials would construct troughs in which the stored water would be released. It would also be taken to places, where it was required and also used for dousing the forest fires, she said. The borewells would be dug up at Sathyamangalam, Kalakkad-Mundanthurai, Anamalai and Mudumalai tiger reserves at a cost of Rs 44 lakh. Similarly, the Chief Minister also announced the creation of 26 solar-powered borewells at Sathyamangalam, Kalakkad-Mundanthurai, Anamalai and Mudumalai Tiger Reserves .
