MARGAO, JULY 14 - The Fatorda Block Congress Committee has said it would support local residents against the Sonsodo dump yard and urged Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat to ensure there's no further delay in starting work on a proper solid waste management plant at the dumping site. "We would be forced to support local residents if they resort to come to the streets to save themselves from a massive health hazard as a result of the stench and disease due to neglect of the dumping facility at Sonsodo of late', a delegation of the Fatorda Congress Committee led by PCC general Secretary Vijay Sardessai and Block President Joseph Silva told Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat. The delegation condemned the total collapse of hygienic conditions and the improper and irresponsible behaviour of the concerned authorities to start work on installing the plant. While media reports suggested there's a clash between the municipal authorities and SUDA with regard to financial and procedural requirements before starting the plant, the delegation told the Kamat that they would support the people on the issue. A set of demands regarding the chaotic traffic scenario was also handed over to the CM by the delegation. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister accompanied by the Sardessai and Silva also called on the family of deceased Pratamesh Naik, a Std Vth Holy Spirit School lad, who was fatally knocked down by a speeding goods vehicle at Chandra Vaddo on June 24. The parents were handed over a cheque of Rs 50,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund by the Chief Minister.
