CM's call to conserve environment

With creating awareness of environment among people, the Delhi Chief Minister, Mrs Sheila Dikshit, today exhorted them to come forward to preserve and conserve environment of the earth planet. She further exhorted them to make rational use of natural resources to ensure better future. She said that her government would introduce water-harvesting scheme in 205 schools in the Capital for which an amount of Rs 40 crore has been earmarked. It is indeed essential to make use of CFL bulbs to go for large-scale energy saving. Maximum installation of CFL bulbs would help in saving of 1200 MW electricity. Mrs Dikshit was addressing eco-club members, gathered from 200 schools of Delhi in a workshop organized in connection with the Earth Day at Delhi secretariat. Secretary (environment), Mr J K Dadoo also expressed his views on the occasion. The Chief Minister said global warming is emerging as a big challenge to the humanity. Large-scale greening would prove beneficial in overcoming the fast-increasing pollution. She exhorted children to function as an environment-ambassador. She further requested children to at least plant seven saplings and preserve them as their family members. Eco-clubs have been established in 1,900 schools in Delhi. The clubs would also be set up in another 200 schools. She stressed the need of utilization of recycled paper. This practice may help in saving around 40,000 trees in a year. She further underlined the need of making mandatory use of recycled papers in business houses. She disclosed that Delhiites have bought around 5lakh GFL bulbs, which are energy efficient and result in less electricity bill.
