Coast Guard gets second pollution control vessel

Surat: ABG Shipyard Ltd on Friday launched the second pollution control-vessel (PCV) for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at Magdalla. The vessel, christened as 'Samudra Pahredar,' is 94 m-long with displacement capacity of 3,300 tonnes and maximum draft of 4.5 metre and has speed of 205 nautical miles per hour.
'Samudra Pehredar' was launched at a ceremony by Urmila Singh, wife of inspector general and commander of western region of ICG Rajendra Singh. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said when PCV joins the main fleet, it will enhance the pollution control capability of IGC in sea.
According to ABG officials, the vessel has storage capacity of 300 tonnes of recovered spilled oil from the sea in addition to having provisions to continuous recovery and transfer of about 1,000 tonnes of oil through floating barges.
