Visakhapatnam, July 16: The state secretary of CPI, Dr K. Narayana, said that their party was opposing the state government's proposal to develop Coastal Corridor between Itchapuram in Srikakulam district and Tada in Nellore district and launched a pro-CPI test campaign in this regard to create awareness among those living in the coastal areas about the ill effects of the proposal. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he alleged that the Coastal Corridor was an attempt by the state government to handover valuable and fertile lands belonging to the farmers and fishermen to MNCs and corporate houses. He also said that lakhs of fishermen would lose their livelihood due to the corridor. Adding that the government officials were threatening the farmers to handover their lands to the government, Dr Narayana said the government was encouraging real estate brokers and encroachers in the name of Coastal Corridor. "The proposal would benefit only realtors and land agents not the general public. Government shows an empty hand whenever poor and needy asks for land. But gives thousands of acres excess lands than requested to private persons. There was an incident where government gave away more than 2,000 acres to setup a private port in Prakasam district against the promoters request to allot 500 to 1,000 acre. Government gave the excess land and asked them to establish allied industries. Whereas it says no to even a square yard to a poor man,' said Dr Narayana.
