Coastal eco-system under threat

Depletion of mangroves at a rapid pace is posing a serious threat to the environment in the coastal region. Mangrove forests protect the coastal areas from cyclones and hurricanes. Their depletion led to a sharp decline in the average annual rainfall in the region, particularly in Krishna and Godavari districts.
