Cold wave continues in North India; Kashmir freezes

North India continues to face an unrelenting cold wave as temperatures in most parts of the region on Sunday stayed low and water bodies in the Kashmir Valley remained frozen.
It was a sunny but chilly Sunday in Delhi, with the minimum temperature taking a slight dip from the normal level.
The low for the day was recorded at 7.0 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. Though fog covered the city in the early hours, the thin veil gave way to the sun as the day progressed.
The maximum day temperature went up to 22 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of the season.
The Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region shivered under intense cold wave as minimum temperatures hovered several degrees below the freezing point.
Water supply lines and water bodies, including the famous Dal Lake, froze due to the intense chill.
The town of Leh in Ladakh remained the coldest place in the State with the night temperature registering a low of minus 18.4 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said.
Kargil and the frontier regions of Ladakh witnessed a minimum night temperature of minus 14.4.
The night temperature in Srinagar, which recorded the coldest night of this winter on Saturday, settled a notch above at minus 4.8 degrees.
The minimum night temperature in the highway town of Qazigund in south Kashmir was minus 8.2, while Saturday’s was minus 8 degrees Celsius.
The hill resort of Pahalgam saw minimum night temperature increase slightly at minus 11.4 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave conditions sweeping across Punjab and Haryana did not let up as well.
Amritsar was the coldest place in the region, recording a minimum of 3 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. The minimum temperature in Ludhiana dipped by three notches since Saturday to settle at 3.4 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, Narnaul shivered at 4.2, down to two notches below normal. Ambala, Hisar and Bhiwani also registered a further dip in minimum temperatures to settle at 6.2, 5 and 5 degrees Celsius respectively.
Parts of Uttar Pradesh also remained in the grip of cold.
