The North Municipal Corporation is ready to implement its reformed parking policy and as part of that, the civic agency will begin using handheld devices in the 64 parking sites under its jurisdiction.
The corporation, however, maintained that it will take some time to get these handheld devices connected to the central server, that will enable it to keep track of every car entering the parking site and for how long it is parked. "Initially, the plan was to connect these devices to a central server so that we have parking records for a month, based on which we can float fresh tenders without losing money to contractors, but that will take time. Parking slips will be issued using these handheld devices in 15 days," North corporation Standing Committee chairman Yogender Chandolia said.
According to senior officials, the revenue from parking sites is expected to increase from Rs 61.88 lakh to Rs 1.4 crore per month. Karol Bagh zone has 19 parking sites, City zone has 13, Rohini has 12, Sadar Paharganj has four and Civil Lines has 14. Narela zone has not been included in the plan of IT-based parking yet, an official said.
"We are yet to get the traffic police's approval for 40 more sites. After we get that, Narela will be included in the list," Yogendra Mann, Director (Press and Information), said.
The policy has strict directives to fine those who violate the contract. Overcharging for the first time will attract a penalty of 25 per cent of monthly licence fee (MLF); non-use of handheld devices will attract a fine of 50 per cent of MLF; exceeding allotted parking space has a fine of 75 per cent of MLF; non-display of notice board has a fine of one month's license fee and other violations will lead to cancellation of licence. Contractors who are blacklisted or have defaulted on payments and employees of corporation will not be bale to participate in tender process of parking site allotment.
Meanwhile, after a delay of many months, South Municipal Corporation will finally table its advertisement and parking policy in front of the Standing Committee on Tuesday. The corporation had decided to make handheld devices for parking slips compulsory. Officials revealed that devices will have real time connectivity with the central server of the corporation and the Delhi Police server. Vehicle owners will be able to pay for parking by using More cards (used in metro and DTC buses). The corporation has planned severe penalties for defaulters.
