An attendant at a south Mumbai petrol pump is tackling a serpentine queue of taxis. The vehicles have lined up since six in the morning to refuel compressed natural gas (CNG). "It is a two-hour wait for a vehicle to get its 10 kg CNG tank filled. It is the only thing that is hampering the use of CNG as a fuel, " he says. His microview is bang on. The rush is heavy because only 23 CNG outlets cater to almost 23,000 vehicles in Mumbai. And the violent outburst in Delhi in March-April this year, against the inadequacy of CNG outlets, is prompting a closer look at the CNG infrastructure in Mumbai.
