A leading industry chamber has suggested levy of excise duty at a concessional rate of eight per cent on CFC-free refrigerators to encourage environment-friendly products. In a representation to the finance ministry the PHD chamber of commerce and industry (PHDCCI) has pointed out that the excise duty on refrigerators under Chapter 84.18 of central excise tariff is 1.8 per cent.
