The State Congress has alleged that the BJP State Government should be held responsible for the deaths of children in the Chhatarpur and Damoh districts after being administered measles vaccine. The party has alleged that these incidents were the outcome of bad practices of corrupt officials as they had purchased substandard medicines leading to the death of infants. State Congress spokesperson JP Dhanopia has said that State Health Minister Anoop Mishra had no right to remain on his post after these deaths. He added that the situation in the State was getting worse every day under BJP rule. Expired medicines were being used openly and death of children after being administered measles vaccine was now a daily affair. Though the State Health Minister has been proclaiming while demanding more funds for the health sector in the Budget, that health services would improve, but the situation was such that health services in the State have completely ceased to function, alleged Dhanopia. He added that lower level employees were being blamed for all the incidents occurring in the State and inquiry was done at that level, whereas higher level officers, were being let off scotfree. The Congress spokesperson further said that malnutrition deaths were increasing in the State and now the death toll due to measles vaccine had touched five. He said that the Government had still not devised any work plan to tackle the situation. Criticising the working style of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dhanopia alleged that the Chief Minister had declared to pay a compensation amount of Rs 1 lakh to the families, whose children have died due to measles vaccination but Minister Jayant Malaiya, had declared only Rs 10,000 as compensation amount in Damoh. He also said that State Health Minister Anoop Mishra was directly responsible for these incidents.
