The Fatorda Block Congress Committee led by PCC general secretary Vijay Sardessai called on Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat and KTC Chairman Reginaldo Lourenco to unequivocally voice the opposition of the local Congress against any attempts to dump garbage for land filling near the KTC bus stand. The delegation made it amply clear to the CM that whilst the Fatorda block is not averse to the KTC filing the plot to expand and improve the present KTC bus stand, they firmly opposed dumping of garbage for the purpose of land filling as it would undoubtedly pollute the ground water and contaminate several wells, which are a source of drinking water to the residents and locals of Fatorda since decades. The Block Committee led by President Joseph Silva commended the efforts of state Mahila Congress Chief Monica Das to create awareness on the issue and take it up at the relevant forum. The delegation was given a patient hearing and was assured that the government would not act against the sentiments and interest of the locals. In view of the ensuing monsoons, the Fatorda Block Congress also asked the Chief Minister too ensure that the work on the solid waste treatment facility at Sonsodo be taken up on a war footing so as not to have any repetition of what happened at Curca a few years ago.
