Congenial atmosphere for forest conservation

Bhopal, Feb 17: Thanks to the importance given to forests and wildlife, a congenial atmosphere has been generated in the state for forest conservation. Several historic decisions have been taken during the last four years in this regard. Special attention has been given to control over crime, safety and security of wildlife. Forest crime management has been modernised and all the forest ranges have been connected with computers and Internet. Villagers have been inspired to participate in forest conservation, augmentation and management in Madhya Pradesh. The state government is dedicated for bringing out greenery in forests and prosperity in the lives of forest dwellers. Madhya Pradesh government has set up 400 forest check-posts for curbing forest crimes and security and safety of wildlife. This is indeed a historic work. The success of awareness campaign for wildlife's safety and security lies in forest dwellers and villagers taking part in it. This is but natural since it is forest dwellers who are closest to wildlife and it is they who are the true friends and protectors of wildlife. Forest crime management system has been modernised with a view of effective check on forest crimes. All the forest ranges in Madhya Pradesh have been connected with Internet trough computers and telephones. Initiative has been taken to connect 433 places in dense forests with satellite communication system. Mobile phones have been provided for forest staff for quick exchange of information about crimes. Arrangement has also been made to provide latest modernised appliance PDA to them. Steps have been taken for upkeep and care of National Forest Parks and Forest Sanctuaries. Panna National Park has been given a new touch. Now the foreign tourists who visit Khajuraho also yearn to have a glimpse of this National Park. Panna National Park has been given National Award for development of tourist facilities and making best arrangements for wildlife conservation. This is a historic achievement. Telling the tale of varied development, Kanha is such a National Park in Madhya Pradesh where a tourist wants to visit again and again. Lush green valleys and beautiful Narmada banks have added beauty and aura of paradisical bliss to Kanha. This National Park has unique role in letting the wild animals live in their natural style and environs with complete freedom. Kanha has been adjudged as best in the country by national-level survey conducted by international agency IUCN. Dense forests and playful wild animals are the real natural grandeur of Madhya Pradesh. These wild animals help visitors get relief from tension and instil in him a feeling of love and affection. Tiger Reserves at Panna, Pench, Satpura and Bandhavgarh have been place in best category. Sanjay Tiger Project in Sidhi district has been declared as the sixth Tiger Reserve in the state. Madhya Pradesh government has made a provision of compensation in the case of attack by wild animals. The injured person or the next of kin of the deceased is given compensation on the basis of certificate issued by a competent government doctor. The Forest Department has laid down some rules in this regard so that the benefit of this scheme should be ensured for the right person only. It is necessary to given information of the incident to the nearest forest officer. Rs 50 thousand is given to next of kin of the person killed by a wild animal in the forest apart from reimbursement of expenses on his treatment. Maximum Rs 10 thousand is given in case of injury and Rs 37 thousand 500 is given to the person who sustains permanent handicap following attack by the a wild animal. Besides, there is provision of providing ex-gratia amounts to the tune of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 soon after injury and death respectively in such cases.
