The president of the district of Telugu Desam, Mr Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, said that the Congress was determined for large-scale destruction of entire Agency areas. The TD's padayatra team, which launched the marathon on Tuesday in Anantagiri Agency mandal reached Araku here on Thursday. Addressing a gathering Mr Satyanarayana Murthy said giving permissions to MNCs to mine bauxite available in the natural tribal scheduled areas of the district shows the commitment of the Congress government towards welfare of the tribals. "The Congress government that boasts of tribal welfare has in real neglected the native tribals. It is determined for large-scale destruction of the forest wealth and native tribals,' he said. Mr Murthy said that though there was a huge uproar by mass organisations, native tribals and Opposition parties the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy government was not bothered about the tribal welfare. He alleged that the present Congress government was working with single agenda to earn money. "Our party members along with the local tribals would intensify the agitation against the bauxite mining and will not allow it at any cost. Mining would displace tribals on large scale. Besides it will have an adverse effect on the surrounding environment,' he said. The former tribal welfare minister, Mr M. Manikumari, alleged that tribal areas development took a back step after the Congress came into power. "All the funds that are to be spent for tribal areas development are being diverted to the construction of irrigation projects ignoring the interests of tribals. YSR is planning to develop Kadapa with the money earned by mining bauxite in Vizag Agency,' she said. The former S.Kota MLA, Ms Sobha Hymavathi, said that people are ready to teach a befitting lesson to the Congress at an appropriate time. The TD's padayatra that was launched at Borragatuvalasa in Anantagiri mandal evoked good response wherever the team visited. There will be a public meeting in Araku on Friday.
