The general body meeting of the District Congress Committee on Monday decided to hold "Farmers' Rally" at district level in a big way on June 23 to campaign the "loan waiver policy" of the Central government. The mandal-level Congress leaders were asked to mobilise 1,000 farmers from each mandal for the rally chalked out by the PCC and the state government jointly. The DCC wanted to utilise the opportunity to go into the hearts of the farmers. The meeting also directed the cadre to organise such programmes at mandal-level from July 1 to 3 three to highlight the gesture of the government. Addressing the DCC general body meeting as chief guest, the minister for social welfare, Mr D.S. Redya Naik, said that the government waived the loans of farmers worth of Rs 72,000 crore in the country, of which the share of Andhra Pradesh farmers would be around Rs 11,000 crore. "A total of 4.5 lakh farmers in the district would get a benefit worth Rs 500 crore due to the decision," he said. Mr Redya Naik said that the bankers would issue the loan liberation certificates to the farmers from July 1 and the cadre should get it and hand over to the concerned farmers through their hands. "The party leaders have to wish the farmers while issuing the certificates and recall the farmer-friendly programmes of the Congress government," he said adding that the bankers would display the list of small and marginal farmers who were benefited with the decision and also the list of farmers who would get 25 per cent loan waiver in the second phase. The farmers have to receive the certificate from the bankers, he added. "The farmer should retain the certificate with care to show the bankers while paying the remaining amount," he said. Mr Naik also said that the government would start issuance of crop loans at an interest rate of Re 0.25 paise per annum from July 1 and the party leaders should also campaign it. DCC president and the minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad and medical services, Mr Vanama Venkateswara Rao, presided over the meeting and the zilla parishad chairperson, Ms G. Vijayalaxmi, the Khammam agricultural market committee chairman, Mr C. Lalaiah and the district cooperative marketing society chairman, Mr K. Ramachandra Murthy, took part in the programme.
