Philippines speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. announced last night the ratification of the bicameral conference committee report on the development, management and conservation of the fisheries and aquatic resources of the country, long awaited by three million fishermen, notably small ones. "The ratification of this bill, which will soon be signed into law by President Ramos, proves our strong commitment to the fisheries sector, especially to the small fisherfolk to protect their intrests, while keeping attuned to the country's commitment to international treaties and agreements", Speaker de Venecia said.
