To take Mayawati's government head-on on farmers issue, state Congress would organise a massive Kisan Maha Panchayat in or near Bhatta-Parsaul in Greater Noida under the leadership of party general secretary Rahul Gandhi before June 25.
''UP Congress would hold chaupals at all the villages which are affected due to land acquisition from June 13 and these people would be asked to join the maha-panchayat near Bhatta-Parsaul later this month,'' announced UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, soon after holding a one day `Public Hearing' in Bakshi Ka Talab thesil here on Thursday afternoon. The move was made by State Congress all over State to invite complaint of land grabbing, illegal acquisition and other excesses of BSP leaders so they could raise the issues during the above Kisan Panchayat.
Rita Bahuguna claimed that the party leaders of 10 districts in Western UP, particularly Gautam Budha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra, Mathura, Ghaziabad, Baghpat and others will collect at New Delhi to discuss about the strategy for the kisan maha-panchayat. ''We will hold similar meetings of the Central UP and East UP on June 11 and 12 respectively,'' she said.
Calling on take up Mayawati for her atrocities on farmers, Rita Bahuguna said that from June 13, they will organise chaupals at all the affected villages where farmers had protested against any land acquisition in the past. ''Farmers of these villages would be invited to attend the Kisan Maha-panchayat at Bhatta-Parsaul where their problems would be heard by Rahul Gandhi,'' the Congress leader said.
She said that the chaupals and Kisan maha-panchayat would act as a dual issue for the Congress, as it will get the first hand views of the farmers on what they want from the Central government in the new Land Acquisition Bill to be tabled in the Parliament during the monsoon session next month. Besides, the farmers would also give their reaction on the new land acquisition policy announced by the UP government recently.
Meanwhile on June 11, a big meeting of the UP Congress legal cell would be held in the state capital to be chaired by party leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi where the party will announce filing of several PILs against the UP government for its misrule and corruption. The party has also decided to file series of Public Interest Litigations (PILs) through its legal cell against the BSP government over misuse of funds in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), irregularities in the acquisition of land of the farmers and demand judicial probe into police atrocities in Bhatta-Parsaul and selling-off of the government owned sugar mills. On June 20 and 21, Rita Bahuguna would lead a 30 kilometre 'padyatra' in Allahabad district to press the authorities to implement the agreement made by the previous district magistrate with the farmers in Karchana.
The padyatra from Katchri village to Kutchery (Collectorate) would be completed in two days time with making a night-stay in any village.
