The visit of the Conservator of Forests from the Union Ministry for Environment and Forests Arjun Singh Negi to the controversial industrial plantations and mining sites of Shimoga district last week has evoked mixed reaction from environmentalists. While Vriksha Laksha Andolana expressed its satisfaction over the discussion it held with the official, the Malenadu Jagritha Samudya of Tirthahalli expressed its displeasure over the negligence shown by the offical towards the Joint Forest Planning and Management(JFPM) and in handling complaints against the plantations run by industries.
