New Delhi, Sept. 4: Come new year automobile buyers will be better informed about the fuel efficiency of vehicles as SIAM has decided to provide fuel consumption information chart along with other registration documents to consumers at the time of purchase. "Starting January 2009, all automobile makers will begin the process of dis-playing the fuel consum-ption information at the point of sale of passenger cars and two-wheelers, along with the document-ation of the vehicle," Soc-iety of Indian Automobile Manufacturers president, Mr Ravi Kant, said. Recognising the need to cut down on carbon-di-oxide emissions, he said this could be implemented by adopting an integrated and a partnership approach. Some of the initiatives that would reduce carbon-di-oxide emission include introduction of more fuel efficient vehicles, use of alternative fuels and introduction of electric and hybrid vehicles. Speaking at the meet, minister of heavy industries Sontosh Mohan Deb said, "With rising oil prices becoming a concern for the industry, the government is willing to provide assistance for alternate fuel options such as the hybrid." "Hybrid is one other area where the government is ready to provide all help to stabilise and commercialise the technology in India," he said.
