Air pollution in the Bangladesh city of Dhaka has long been a problem causing ill-health among the residents. Although no confirmation is really needed that the biggest source of these polluting emissions come from old vehicles plying on the roads, it is comforting to know that the police authorities as well as the department of the Environment agree with it. The Metropolitan Police of Dhaka says that around 70 per cent of the vehicles on city roads are responsible for the pall of black smoke that envelopes the city. (editorial)
