Councillors hold morcha against waste

Protesting against the Quepem Municipal Council's (QMC) failure to lift garbage, Opposition Councillors on Thursday served an eight-day ultimatum, threatening to dump the same in front of the municipality building. Councillors Rahul Pereira, Cathy Fernandes, Nana Gaonkar and Antoneitta Simoes led the villagers in the morcha which started from Quepem Fish market. When the morcha reached near Quepem Municipal Council the same was stopped by the police team. Explaining the Council's stand on garbage, Chairperson Tereza Travasso assured to solve the problem but accused Chief officer Ajit Panchawadkar of not implementing the same. She also accused the Opposition councillors of instigating the locals. Denying the charges leveled against him, the Chief Officer brought to the notice of the agitators the different correspondence made by him to different department regarding land acquisition at Pedamol and stated that the council is yet to receive report from the Forest Department.
