The Supreme Court has allowed the disposal of "illicitly felled siezed timber" in the forests of the Northeast and eastern India in a phased manner. A three-judge bench of Chief Justice J S Verma and Justices A S Anand and B N Kirpal set a 37-point guideline to dispose of the "1.20 lakh cubic metres of seized illegal timber which were rotting in the forests and depots for a period of time and thereby leading to a degradation of its value."
